An educational recreation of Mesa Verde National Park’s Spruce Tree House. Created for use with the UnrealEngine2 Runtime to allow the viewer to be able to walk through the cliff dwellings as it was back in the 1100-1200’s.
The project started with creation maps and floor plans based off of archeological surveys and photographs. The strutures were created in Unreal Editor; the cliff and accessories were modeled and textured in Lightwave.
“Mesa Verde is best known for a large number of well preserved cliff dwellings, houses built in shallow caves along the canyon walls. For most of the 12th and 13th centuries, the Classic Period, the Ancient Puebloan Indians lived in these dwellings. The reason for their sudden departure about 1275 remains unexplained; theories range from crop failures due to droughts to an intrusion of foreign tribes from the North.” (Wikipedia)
